Out Loud Artistry - more than just talent.
Dear Family and Friends,

I would like to begin this email by saying “HAPPY NEW YEAR,” to all my family and friends. As the year begins, Robin and I are extremely excited about what the New Year has in store for us, and OLA (Out Loud Artistry). We have begun planning for the 2 Annual Out Loud Artist Performing Arts Camp. Camp SLAM! offers:
· Dance
· Drama
· Creative Writing
· Photography
· Percussion
· Art
· Recording

Robin and I are extremely excited to see the amazing things that both the students and staff will experience this summer. However, with the growing number of families in transition and seeking financial assistance, we simply cannot accommodate every child and have funds available to operate the daily functions of camp. We need your support in order to make camp possible for every child that desires to attend. The average cost for a child to attend a typical camp in Memphis is $125 a week. This does not include lunch, aftercare or additional classes. We are pleased to say that the cost to attend Camp SLAM! is just $85 a week for rising 3 – 10 grade students.  The day includes breakfast, lunch, snack, camp creative activities from 8am to 5pm, quality instruction from experienced specialists, life skill workshops, weekly guest speakers and weekly live performances.

For those of you who are not familiar with our organization, Out Loud Artist is a 501c 3 nonprofit organization that provides high quality, year-round mentoring programs open to all at-risk youth, ages 8 to 18, in the disadvantaged areas of Midtown. As a ministry of Lifelink Memphis, OLA, through its trained staff and volunteers, offer programs that address the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual development of the served youth. OLA designs and delivers its program in such a way as to cause positive changes in three distinct areas of our participant’s lives:

  • Increased educational growth and performance
  • Increased self-discipline personal behavior
  • Increased acceptance of moral responsibility

We are asking you to help us out this year by giving a tax-deductible donation to OLA.  Our desire is to provide students with training in the area of performing arts and servant leadership preparing them to be model figures within our community and ultimately the world. So this year we are hoping we can count on you for a generous donation. ·       For $240 you can sponsor one camper for the first 3 weeks of the camp session. ·       For $480 you can sponsor one camper for the entire 6-week camp session.

I thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to whatever support you are able to provide. If you are able to donate privately, please also check for matching funds through your employer, as many companies have matching programs. If you require additional information about OLA, please contact us and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have. You may also visit www.olatn.com online or contact us directly by phone at 901.219.5514. If you are sending your donation in the form of check, please make it payable to Lifelink Memphis. You can also donate online.

Camp SLAM! begins May 31, so please return your donation in the enclosed, stamped addressed envelope by April 2, 2010. We couldn’t do it without the generosity of donors like you.   God bless you, and thank you for your generous support!   Corey & Robin Sanders outloudartistry@gmail.com 901.219.5514

DREAM BIG
OLA collaborates with University of Memphis' iBeam.
On Monday, September 21, 2009, OLA Artistic Director Robin Sanders spoke at iBeam's "Thinking of a Master Plan".  iBeam, short for Inspiring Business Entrepreneurship and Money Management, is a newly formed University of Memphis organization headed by BJ Williams and Tim Jordan.

During the event, Sanders shared insightful tips on how to succeed in college and encouraged students to dream big and "pursue purpose over wealth and fame."  Sanders shared her victories and even defeats in co-founding Out Loud Artistry.  In addition, students were given the opportunity to hear of the many issues facing college students as they prepare for a career and post graduation.  Students left the University of Memphis' Psychology Auditorium inspired and empowered.  This event marked the first of many to be produced from the newfound partnership of OLA and iBeam.

Dance, Buckets and Fun
OLA formally introduced themselves at Midtown's Cooper-Young Festival.

Midtown's S. Cooper was flooded with artist of all kind, from jewelry makers, clothing designers, painters, and sculptors.  It was a creative and eclectic hodge podge.  And at the end of the track, or the beginning for some, on the corner of S. Cooper and Walker, something refreshingly different took place!
Lifelink's Kirk Smith, former keyboardist and music director of Cayerio, initiated the crowd participation.  Smith summoned the passers by to "check out some sweet dancing and entertainment," while Cayerio's Kevin Jones and OLAYouth's Joshua Jamison treated the audience to bucket drumming, OLA's preferred musical choice.  The crowd formed quickly as HPG and OLAYouth showcased their skills directly in front of Lifelink Memphis.  Following their performance, OLA offered the audience a free dance class where over 30 audience members of all ages took advantage of the offer.

OLA member Quida Noris engages the audience in a lesson in tuting, a popular hip hop form inspired by the lines and angels seen in Egyptian dance.
At the later performance, OLA engaged and educated the audience in an teachable moment where HPG's Quida Norris and Michael Hicks showcased tuting and South African boot dance.  Following the performance, several bold audience members tested their skills in an impromptu dance class right before the crowd.   To top off the day, newly joined OLAYouth member, Rashad stimulated the crowd with his thought provoking spoken word.  The festival was a great time of educating, engaging, and entertaining for both OLA and the Midtown community!

Change is in the air
OLA Is All New for the Fall.

OLA is gearing up for Fall season
and there is certainly a lot in store for both members and supporters.  This summer was a major success and they are anticipating even greater successes in the future.  OLA directors and husband and wife duo, more commonly known as Corey and Bino, could not be more excited!  With OLA's new partnerships and recent move, "There is definitely a fresh creative energy," said OLA's Artistic Director, Robin "Bino" Sanders.  "We could not be more excited about what is happening now."

And after acknowledging having had a great year as an instructor at New Ballet Ensemble and School and having Hybrid Performance Group there  as an incubator group as well, an opportunity made possible by ArtsMemphis, Sanders says,"It's a great time to dream big!"  She then gave a rather convicting bit of advice that warned against "complacency," and "settling."  Sanders explained, "Our heart is always speaking to us, it's just easier to quiet it when following it means hard work."

But both are up for the challenge as programs continue to grow at OLA.  HPG continues to expand and Cayerio continues to soar after a brief period of reconstruction.  The band underwent a face lift this summer getting a new bass player out of Munford, Tn., Andrew Rowland; a new guitarist of Little Rock, Ar., Robert Smith; and new keyboard player of Conway, Ar., Perry Johnson.  While this Fall marks a time of newness and change, the impeccable training and performances offered through OLA will remain the same!
